Act Now: Save today our tomorrow

In 2015, the world committed to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) so that, by 2030, it would be possible to guarantee a future for people and the planet, promoting peace, prosperity, and partnerships. However, in 2024, less than a decade until the SDGs due date, the world is far from achieving this promise. In this context, FAMUN 2024 invites its participants to join the United Nations “Act Now” campaign, with the purpose of inspiring people and institutions to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs to achieve a healthy planet, just societies, a better economy, and a world working together. It is a fact that we have no more time to argue, look for someone to blame, or decide who is right or wrong. Our current situation is marked by the urgency of the climate, economic, political, and social crises, which call for immediate action. Join us to act now. Let’s save today our tomorrow!

UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT ASSEMBLY

Nature-based solutions for supporting sustainable development
High School | English

The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) was created in 2012 as a high-level decision-making body based in Nairobi-Kenya, with the mandate to promote international environmental policies and environmental law. Recognizing the importance of strengthening actions for nature to address major challenges to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – such as climate change, biodiversity loss, water availability, and food security -, UNEA addressed the topic “Nature-based solutions for supporting sustainable development” for the first time in 2022. The main goal of UNEA’s deliberations was to agree on a common definition of Nature-based solutions: Actions to protect and sustainably use ecosystems while addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges to the achievement of the 17 SDGs. However, the concept remains open to discussion, as governments, civil society, and the private sector have different understandings about Nature-based solutions and how they can tackle these challenges. In FAMUN 2024, delegates must further the consensus on the concept and design a strategy for the implementation of this approach, based on best practices that are truly in harmony with Nature and incorporate the ecological knowledge of indigenous peoples and traditional communities.

Social events

In the real UN, negotiations never cease! No matter if delegates are on their lunch break or just chatting informally through their favorite social media, they are always exchanging views on the agenda item. After all, consensus might be only an informal chat away!

Since our goal is to offer you the most accurate MUN experience, in FAMUN 2024 we will offer social events, so that delegates can interact in an informal setting. Save the dates:

Day 1 – Thursday, 05 September 2024 (BRT)

15:30-16:30 | Social event – Chill & Connect (High School and University)

FAMUN 2024 starts here! And to give a much more connected welcome, Chill & Connect will thaw the atmosphere and provide the first moments of fun at our conference. The initial contact with different people and environments always causes some nervousness, especially before negotiating, doesn’t it? But don’t worry, because the relaxation moment of Chill & Connect will help you to become familiar with the environment and get to know the new simulation partners, providing interaction that is beyond unusual and fun.

18:00-20:00 | Social Event – Beat N’Drum (High School and University)

Release your body, because the night’s spectacle is about to begin! From the beats of drums to the sound of hip-hop, from vibrant capoeira circles to the fluidity of Just Dance, Beat N’ Drum is the Celebration of Urban and Afrodescendant Culture, bringing an immersive cultural diversity through expressions that have shaped and inspired communities around the world. Get ready to merge pulsating rhythms, captivating martial artistry, and the infectious energy of games into an unforgettable experience at Beat N’ Drum.

Day 2 – Friday, 06 September 2024 (BRT)

17:00-19:00 | Social Event – Stars of Now (High School and University)

Talent and fun? That’s the official language of Stars of Now! Get ready to unleash your voice and shine like a star of the moment. A different kind of karaoke begins by honoring the origins of our land, with the ancestral voices of indigenous peoples; but this will be just an introduction to our night! After the performance, the stage is open for the voices of diversity, and this is the chance to showcase your vocal talent, share fun moments with friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Everyone is welcome to participate! Choose your favorite songs from a wide repertoire, from timeless classics to the latest hits. Whether you’re a karaoke veteran or someone stepping onto the stage for the first time, this is your opportunity to shine, belt out, and have fun.

Day 3 – Saturday, 07 September 2024 (BRT)

19:00-23:00 | Social Event – Ties for Peace (University)

Get ready for a college integration like no other – welcome to Ties for Peace! This event is the biggest and best opportunity to leave the tension of negotiations behind, expand your network and make new friends, as there will be no shortage of people from different places. Ties for Peace is a celebration of diversity, friendship, and harmony! As the final social event of FAMUN 2024, college integration will be responsible for delivering everything! We’ve prepared interactive activities, fun games, and plenty of music. So, let’s make amends post-simulation, because the gathering is open to all college students. But be aware of the only necessary regulation to be followed: It is strictly prohibited not to interact, interaction is mandatory! We look forward to seeing you.
