Social and Environmental Responsibility

FACAMP has always encouraged its students to develop a social and environmental consciousness, from its infrastructure to the topics discussed during classes. Therefore, FACAMP Model United Nations is an event committed to social and environmental responsibility.

Firstly, this concern is expressed in the themes which will be discussed during the Committees’ sessions. Themes such as the preservation of the environment and the natural resources and the social development will be important topics present during discussions and in the Final Documents developed by all Committees.

Furthermore, FACAMP Model United Nations is an event committed to sustainability as an organizational practice, promoting environmentally-friendly actions, such as:  the use of mugs in replacement of disposable plastic glasses; the use of eco-bags in replacement of plastic or petroleum-based bags; and waste separation during the days of conference.
In order to save paper and to keep pace with the new world tendencies in publications, FACAMP Model United Nations will publish its study guides in an e-book format. This will be the first e-book published by Editora FACAMP. The objective is not only to promote the academic development of our students as co-authors of a book but also to foster new sustainable medias in the academic area.

In reference to social responsibility, FACAMP Model United Nations has chosen to stimulate the practice of reading and the donation of books as the main focus of its social projects. The Program of Social Learning (PAS – Programa de Aprendizagem Social) will be the main beneficiated entity of FACAMP Model United Nations social programs. PAS is a social project created by FACAMP students in 2005 with the objective of offering Portuguese, Mathematics, Computing and Basic Economics classes to FACAMP cleaning and gardening employees.

During the days of conference, FACAMP Model United Nations will also hold its first Book Fair , in a partnership with CERI (Centro de Estudos e Pesquisa em Relações Internacionais) and CARI (Centro Acadêmico de RI da FACAMP).

Putting reading in the forefront of FACAMP Model United Nations social concerns, the donation of books to PAS, the Book Fair and the publication of the e-book are projects which intent to foster the habits of reading as an important element of a solid education and critical formation education.
